A very pleasant stay. I've stayed before and would come back. Blessed with nice weather that just enhanced the pleasant, friendly, relaxed environment. Lovely food ! (97292258)

positive comments Nice room, very good food, made welcome by staff, lovely location
negative comments Bathroom window painted shut. Room dusty in places. Some of the jiggers of milk in room were out of date (yeuurkk!). Better guidance of what to do is required on the very busy Jazz Night (Thursday) as many customers were wandering around the tables not knowing what was available. Charged 50p for a phone call that I didn't make.

good first impression would definitely return again, but would have liked to have known about the late start to breakfast (97262370)

positive comments the location, and the room
negative comments breakfast not starting until 0800 - when you have to move on for work this is a little late

9 room hotel with some themed'ish comfortable large bar/lounge although to use as Hotel lounge felt you needed to buy drink. Would have been nice to know outside had scaffolding for redecorating outside but did not really detract from our stay. Overall good and welcoming. (97497334)

positive comments Friendly staff and atmosphere
negative comments heating pipes through wall made room hot even in April, Victoria room

The hotel is in a very nice location, the staff was friendly and helpful. The food served in the bar restaurant was good and the selection of real beers in the bar was very good. The room had obviously recently been redecorated and wasnÂ’t quite finished. The renovation work being carried out on the outside of the building meant there was scaffolding up to both windows of the room. It would have been nice to have been forwarded of this. The bed was a bit small and the room being on the top floor had a slopping roof which could be awkward for a tall person... We would recommend this hotel and go back again. (97236406)

positive comments Location, the friendly and helpfulstaff, good food and dinks in the bar.
negative comments To many stairs and the bed too small.

Excellent location in the middle of the New Forest. Nice room - appears to have been recently redecorated. Good choice of food available in the evening from the bar. (97692240)

positive comments Excellent location, nice room - recently redecorated, good choice of food.
negative comments Couldn't check in early - but this may have been due to a new carpet being fitted at the time?

Although the decorators were working when we arrived they stopped for the weekend and in my opinion the new decor was an improvement on the old. Reception was efficient, friendly and calm and we were in our room in no time. All meals were good with plenty of well cooked food every time, in fact breakfast lasted us until dinner. I felt an extra member of staff in the bar and dinning areas in the afternoons would have kept these areas tidier between lunch and dinner. Although all the staff were extreemly friendly and the location was superb we would hesitate to stay at this Inn again for the simple reason of allowing dogs in the bar where food is also served, the explanation we were given for this situation did not convince us, we are not dog lovers. The restaurant food was very average. The hotel is about a mile from the main part of the village which is walkable during the day but not at night - you could easily fall over and injure yourself. (99500513)

positive comments Room was spacious but a bit dark.
negative comments Only 4 television channels!

One of the friendliest hotels we have stayed in. We also went there last year with two other friends and will probably be back again. Thank you very much!!! (99236207)

positive comments The friendly atmosphere and staff.

I would have liked to have been informed that the room was above the bar area and would be noisy. The so called award winning restaurant was just pub food and again was very noisy and also very cold. The proximity to Burley would have also been useful as it was a long walk. (99471763)

positive comments The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable and a good shower.
negative comments The noise. The room was above the main bar and the noise went on until 1am in the morning. There was no blind at the bathroom window so we had to hang a bath towel over it. The whole place smelt of cigarettes and chips.

The White Buck is a large New Forest pub set in its own grounds. The bars and eating areas occupy all the downstairs. The reception desk is unmanned - you have to go into the bar. On Saturday night the pub was noisy and crowded, with A TV screen showing live sports and a busy slot machine. All the tables were full. Our room was in an attic, with a sloping ceiling and confined space. It looked tired and unclean. The central-heating was noisy and the curtains too thin, so we woke at first light. There was only one bath towel for 2 people. There was no plug for the sink. Service was offhand rather than bad - just take it or leave it. Despite many empty tables, at breakfast our waitress tried to make us sit in a dark spot next to the serving area because it was laid up. Breakfast itself had processed sausages, greasy fried bread and tinned mushrooms. A disappointing stay in a mediocre and rather grubby hotel. Never again! (99112961)

positive comments Good location in the New Forest, close to many attractions.
negative comments The White Buck hasn't fully decided if it wants to be a country house hotel or just a pub serving food. Accommodation has a low priority.

Location of the hotel was fantastic, all staff were very friendly and helpfull, food was very nice and a lot to chose from on the menu. Very good service and the food came quickly. The room was a good size with a lovley view (indian spice suite). P.S. If the tv does not work properly then push the a/d button on remote. (99961626)

Overall a nice setting and pleasant little country inn, with good food, polite staff and high standard of cleanliness. Hugely disappointing that the heating system was so noisy that it ruined my night’s sleep - I definitely woke up ratty! I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here until the system was replaced which is a shame....... (99920167)

positive comments Clean and friendly. Food was also very good.
negative comments Central heating system is obviously very old and in need of major over-haul. It made a lot of noise all night through the radiators and kept me awake for most of it! Not good when you are attending an important client meeting in the morning!

positive comments The hotel was clean and welcoming. Excellent choice of food in the restaurant in the evenings. Service by bar and restuarant staff very good.
negative comments The first room offered although a double was small and in the roof of the hotel but on requesting a change of room there was no problem and the room them allocated was of a good standard.

If you are looking for reasonably priced accommodation in a simply delightful setting, this is the place to stay. The surrounding countryside is stunning and wild life abounds. The manager is unwelcoming, but his wife is charming. (99189082)

positive comments The room was clean and tidy although a tiny bit in need of refurbishment ( a 2 poster bed not 4!) it was reasonably comfortable.
negative comments The smell of stale food /tobacco in the downstairs hall.

The facilities were adequate but not to the standard we had expected. The dining arrangements meant that meals had to be ordered at the bar rather than at the table. We found this a rather inflexible approach as choices had to be made upfront. (99716967)

positive comments Nice location
negative comments A bit tired

We were satisfied with the information we had already recieved. We were in general very pleased with our stay. (3305204961)

positive comments The room was light and comfortable and quiet even though during our stay there was a Jazz night
negative comments We felt that the housekeeping persons could have been a bit more vigorous with a duster and the replacement of duff electric light bulbs. Sash cords on windows need replacing.

Ideal for a short stay in the New Forest but perhaps but more suited to families and young couples than the more mature guest as there are quite a lot of stairs, although in fairness the hotel info did mention stairs. Dining Room battled to cope on one evening when it was full, it took nearly an hour for us to be served. Our room overlooked the outside eating area and was a bit noisy at times as it was quite warm and we needed to have the window open. However overall we had a pleasant time at this hotel (3304626308)

positive comments Clean & comfortable and very close to the New Forest. Pleanty of Parking
negative comments No one offered to assist with luggage. Dining Room very busy & noisy. Too many stairs.

Loved the location, room and bed. Did not enjoy the services (3304555589)

positive comments Beautiful large room, with windows and a big comfortable bed.
negative comments When we arrived, the receptionist was also the barman, and it took a little while to check in. Also the first night we stayed there, we had a evening meal and it took 75 minutes from the time of order to delivery of the food. They agreed not to charge us for the meal

the whole standard was poor. It always took a search for staff to check in and out, no dirty plates were cleard from our table or surrounding tables at breakfast and no offer of extra coffee or toast was made. In fact my husband likened the place to Faulty Towers!!!The only thing in it's favour was the help from one young lad who apologised for the state of the first room and offered the upgrade. (3304573291)

positive comments nothing initially but after complaint an upgrade was offered and accepted although still not a good standard
negative comments The first room was shabby, the cistern handle was broken, the window was wedged open with cardboard, the wardrobe and drawers contained a man's clothes and underwear etc etc
Excellent

It was lovely to be able to step out of the hotel, and within literally a minute's walk, be in the New Forest and able to watch the ponies and foals so close up. The accommodation too was comfortable and the service excellent. (3304695911)

positive comments The location, the comfort, food and service.
negative comments As we were only there one night, there wasn't really anything to dislike.
